Metroparks Toledo as a Seasonal Junior Camp Counselor. In this
role, you bring the Connections Camp experience to life for youth
ages 5 – 14. You’ll help campers experience the outdoors (maybe for
the first time) and create an environment where parks are common

Summary Advance Metroparks Toledo’s core conservation mission by
providing an engaging Connections Camp. Duties and Responsibilities
Assist Year-Round Programming Staff by serving as a camp counselor
for Connections Camp summer program for youth ages 5 to 14. Assist
with camp and outdoor skills activities including archery,
canoeing, fishing (such as baiting and removing fish from hooks),
nature walks, games, crafts and other engaging programs. Guide
individual camper participation. Be a positive role model when
leading campers and volunteers. Assist with daily maintenance of
facilities and teaching areas, equipment and supplies. Includes
sweeping and mopping, restroom and litter clean up. Provide basic
care to education ambassador animals including feeding, cleaning
enclosures, and monitoring physical and behavioral health Take
photos of daily camp activities, upload and organize photos.
Maintain a safe environment for campers and park visitors at all
times. Other Park District duties as assigned. Equipment Used
General office equipment Cameras Software & Apps: Microsoft Office
Suite Art and nature equipment and supplies General cleaning
supplies and hand tools Outdoor Skills Equipment: Canoes, Fishing
Poles, Archery Equipment Physical Requirements and Working
Conditions Length of employment varies based on need. Generally,
May – August. Employment will not exceed 1,480 hours in a calendar
year. Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm Home Work Location:
Glass City Metropark Requires frequent lifting and carrying of up
to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 90 pounds with
assistance. Requires ability to walk and work outdoors for extended
periods of time in all types of weather including extreme heat and
cold. Requirements Job Requirements This role is meant for a
current high school student. Must be 16-18 years of age. Education:
Current High School student. Experience: No prior work experience
required. Previous experience in child care, preferred.
Certifications: Must obtain the following certifications within 30
days of employment and fulfill requalification and recertification
requirements: CPR/First Aid/AED certification Alternates to the
position requirements may be made as Metroparks finds appropriate
and acceptable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated
appreciation for enhancing quality of life and conserving the
region’s natural resources through clean, safe and natural parks
and open spaces. Knowledge Some knowledge of summer camp programs.
Some knowledge of safety principles with outdoor skills equipment.
Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to
communicate in an articulate, intelligent and friendly manner when
serving the public. Demonstrated problem solving skills.
Demonstrated computer skills. Abilities Ability to assist with
archery, canoeing, and fishing. Ability to develop and maintain
effective professional relationships with all stakeholders,
including employees, volunteers and the general public. Ability to
perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with speed
and accuracy under the pressure of deadlines. Ability to comply
with all safety rules and regulations. Ability to understand and
follow verbal and/or written policies, procedures and instructions.
