Job Description:
Purpose: This position is responsible for working as a member of
the global R&D glass shaping team to apply engineering
knowledge of glass, glass bending, and tempering to design,
develop, and implement innovative technologies to improve bending
capabilities to meet demanding specifications in new automotive
glass designs. Additionally, this position will support the
automotive business unit and manufacturing facilities by providing
technical bending expertise for new model development and
resolution of manufacturing issues.Essential Functions:Apply
engineering knowledge and experience to R&D and manufacturing
glass products and processesEvaluate technical feasibility of
existing processes to meet the manufacturing requirements of new
automotive programsSupport the design and implementation of new and
existing processes to improve process capability and product
quality/performanceSupport implementation of R&D projects into
global manufacturing facilitiesCollaborate closely with
manufacturing, and other internal departments, to identify process
improvement opportunitiesConduct trials and analyze research data
to develop new or improved products and processesMaintain accurate
and detailed records (laboratory notebook and documents)Prepare
presentations and reports, and communicate test results of research
activities to managementProvide technical input to the design and
installation of process tooling to conduct testing and development
activitiesMaintain and plan preventative maintenance on the R&D
and development center process equipmentTroubleshoot issues with
R&D and development center equipment and processesManage risk
assessments on new and modified equipmentAble to travel
domestically and internationally to R&D centers, manufacturing
plants, supplier, and customer locationsAdherence to the
NSG/Pilkington safety standardsAdherence to the NSG/Pilkington
Standards of Business Conduct and its Code of
EthicsScope:Participates in, supports, and manages global R&D
development projectsPartners with manufacturing, as required, to
provide technical support for automotive glass production.Top 3

Engineering, glass related field, or equivalent
experienceEngineering knowledge of glassMinimum 3 years of
experience working with glass manufacturing and/or development

techniquesExcellent interpersonal and communication skills (written
and verbal)Able to travel 20% of the timeQualifications
Desired:Experience with glass coatingsUnderstanding of Six Sigma
quality improvementUnderstanding of DFMEA and PFMEAMechanical
