Job Description:
Commodity Manager I
The Commodity Manager is responsible for supplier selection,
supplier management, negotiation, and procurement of a wide variety
of components within assigned commodities, consistent with company
policy and operating procedures. This role will actively engage the
company's suppliers to optimize cost and availability of sourced
materials in support of lean manufacturing operations while
maintaining delivery and quality performance. This requires
specialized technical knowledge on a group of commodities and
skills in developing suppliers, managing cost, negotiating, and
procurement techniques.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Assumes responsibility for cost effective Strategic Sourcing and
Supply Management of assigned commodities
Assumes responsibility for continuous improvement of products,
processes, and quality
Assumes responsibility for development and implementation of
effective administration of Sourcing Department policies,
procedures, and planning.
Assumes responsibility for maintaining effective business relations
with vendors, suppliers, and trade professionals
Education/Certification
Associates Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or
Engineering is required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
APICS or ISM certification is preferred
Experience Required
2 years of related experience in a materials management role within
a manufacturing environment.
Multisite national or international corporate commodity sourcing
experience is a plus.
Required Knowledge
Understanding of purchasing policies and procedures
Knowledge of sources for supplier commodities and cost drivers for
their operations is a plus:
Understanding of manufacturing processes in areas of HPDC and sand
casting, machining, and / or injection molding is preferred.
Lean manufacturing knowledge and experience operating as a buyer
utilizing Kanban and pull triggers.
Skills / Abilities
Proficient computer skills working with MS Office applications
(Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
ERP system knowledge, preferably in SAP, with the ability to learn
new systems quickly
Strong analytic, planning, and problem-solving skills
Trained and experienced in multiple negotiation techniques is a
plus
Well organized and able to communicate clearly across all levels of
the organization
