Commodity Manager I
The Commodity Manager is responsible for supplier selection, supplier management, negotiation, and procurement of a wide variety of components within assigned commodities, consistent with company policy and operating procedures. This role will actively engage the company's suppliers to optimize cost and availability of sourced materials in support of lean manufacturing operations while maintaining delivery and quality performance. This requires specialized technical knowledge on a group of commodities and skills in developing suppliers, managing cost, negotiating, and procurement techniques.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Assumes responsibility for cost effective Strategic Sourcing and Supply Management of assigned commodities

• Lead cost saving initiatives and VAVE that result in the improved financial performance of the business.
  
• Full life cycle supply management through category strategy development with routine quarterly updates, RFQ, supplier selection, negotiation, and project management / implementation.
  
• Optimize supplier logistics to support the Company's lean manufacturing initiatives through the use of pull signal releases, mixed-model delivery, "milk-run" truck routes, returnable containers, bar-coding, etc.
  
• Subject matter expert and financial steward for driving the procurement and use of leading edge supplied materials, technologies, and resources within assigned commodities.
  
• Oversees inventory procedures and controls. Ensures that inventory levels are appropriate, secure, and accurately recorded and verified. Directs receipt and storage functions to meets inventory KPIs.
  
  Assumes responsibility for continuous improvement of products, processes, and quality

  • Take ownership for supplied material red dots and drive all corrective actions to root cause preventing reoccurrence while sharing learnings to build a more durable supply chain.
    
  • Optimize spend for assigned commodities by focusing on supplier cost savings, and cost reduction initiatives. Analyze PPV, commodity costs, and consumption rates to identify opportunities.
    
  • Monitor supplier KPIs (OTD, Lead Time, Quality, Cost) and use scorecards as well as supplier assessments to lead continuous improvement at the supplier and address supplier performance issues.
    
  • Perform Quarterly Business Reviews with Top 5 suppliers based on overall supplier performance
    
    Assumes responsibility for development and implementation of effective administration of Sourcing Department policies, procedures, and planning.

    • Assists management in developing short and long-term goals and plans. Assists with budgeting.
      
    • Assists in developing policies and procedures for Purchasing Operations. Conducts periodic reviews of existing policies and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and service delivery.
      
    • Maintain purchasing data accuracy, including all relevant supplier data, pricing, and payment terms.
      
    • Ensures that all purchase orders, leases, and maintenance agreements are current.
      
    • Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies with Accounting and Suppliers.
      
    • Keeps management advised of key changes of schedule in materials due and completes required reports, records, and other documentation as required.
      
      Assumes responsibility for maintaining effective business relations with vendors, suppliers, and trade professionals

      • Serves as a liaison between the Company and its suppliers.
        
      • Communicate monthly supplier forecasts to all key suppliers and manage supplier capacity to meet the requirements of Company operations
        
      • Perform supplier's site visits and supplier research to evaluate their ability to meet quality requirements, specifications, and stay abreast of new processes and developments.
        
        Education/Certification
        Associates Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or Engineering is required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
        APICS or ISM certification is preferred
        Experience Required
        2 years of related experience in a materials management role within a manufacturing environment.
        Multisite national or international corporate commodity sourcing experience is a plus.
        Required Knowledge
        Understanding of purchasing policies and procedures
        Knowledge of sources for supplier commodities and cost drivers for their operations is a plus:

        • Grey iron, aluminum, and stainless-steel castings
          
        • Fractional horsepower A/C & D/C motors and motor components
          
        • Electrical and Electronic Components, Controls, and Displays
          
        • CNC Precision Machining, Steel fabrications, and components
          
        • Plastic molded components and rubber compounds used in seals, gaskets, and hoses
          
        • Corrugated packaging
          
          Understanding of manufacturing processes in areas of HPDC and sand casting, machining, and / or injection molding is preferred.
          Lean manufacturing knowledge and experience operating as a buyer utilizing Kanban and pull triggers.
          Skills / Abilities
          Proficient computer skills working with MS Office applications (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
          ERP system knowledge, preferably in SAP, with the ability to learn new systems quickly
          Strong analytic, planning, and problem-solving skills
          Trained and experienced in multiple negotiation techniques is a plus
          Well organized and able to communicate clearly across all levels of the organization
