Job Description:

ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent is responsible for managing Hematology/Oncology care in both outpatient and inpatient settings. He/she will evaluate, diagnose, consult, and order appropriate diagnostic studies and treatments for hematology/oncology patients and provide emergency hematology/oncology services as agreed or designated. The incumbent will provide consultative evaluations and treatments to patients referred from other sections of the hospital and/or affiliated VA Outpatient clinics, and perform administrative functions and other tasks as assigned by the Associate Chief of Staff of Acute Medical Service to meet the needs of the medical center.He/she will provide oversight and direction for advanced practice nurses assigned to hematology/oncology service and act as a collaborating physician if requested for same.Work Schedule:8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Monday - Friday). On-call 24/7 by phone consultation as needed.Financial Disclosure Report:Not requiredRecruitment/Relocation Incentive:May be available to highly qualified candidate.Once appointed you will be eligible to apply for student loan reimbursement under the Education Debt Reduction Program. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.Proficiency in spoken and written English.Physical requirements outlined below.Preferred Experience:1. Board Certified in Internal Medicine.2. Board Certified or prepared in Hematology/OncologyReference:VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.Physical Requirements:All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required. In the process of providing patient care, the work involves regular and recurring periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, pulling, lifting, reaching and carrying. Manual dexterity is required to operate medical equipment and perform activities such as surgery, treatments and computerized medical record documentation.EducationNote:Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
