This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus. # Summary
Provides patient centered nursing care in an outpatient setting to
the morbidly obese population according to established scope of
practice guidelines and standard of care. Develops, coordinates,
and implements patient plan of care in collaboration with the
health care team, including bariatric surgeons and bariatric
surgery coordinator. Major responsibilities: rooming patients,
patient triage, medication administration, and patient teaching.
Additional responsibilities: Assists in the Bariatric Program#s
patient flow by helping patients navigate steps to bariatric
surgery, and beyond (postop). Responsible for patient conversation
to surgery, including patient education, patient checklist creation
(with insurance specialist), patient tracking and navigation.
Presents at information seminars and support groups. Manages
information sessions and support groups programs, venues, and
schedules. Participates in weekly team conference to review Patient
Tracker/status, compliance, and the achievement of metrics to
ensure volume growth in the program. Discusses upcoming 6 months of
patients and their readiness for surgery with the team. Develops
mechanism/tool for patient tracking, and actions to ensure patient
progression to surgery. Clinically supports the bariatric surgeon
in the clinic. Meets with patients to review their checklist and
path to surgery. Assists with patient triage, rooming, vital signs,
procedures, scheduling of tests, and coordinating appointments.
Utilizes tools such as Epic, Patient Tracker, Insurance Grid,
WorkQueue, and other IT Programs to ensure patients are completing
the correct tasks for surgery. Maintains operations by following
policies and procedures; reporting needed changes. Contributes to
team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Continually
strives to advance knowledge and practice of clinical skills in
bariatrics. Education Must have an Associate#s degree from a school
of nursing. # Licensure/Certification Must have an Indiana
Registered Nursing License. CPR certified. Completion of American
College of Surgeon#s Bariatric Nurse Certification (BCN) within 1
year of employment. # Experience Requires 3 to 4 years of working
with patients, physicians, and staff. Clinic Setting or Hospital
Setting preferred. Prefer experience working with the morbidly
obese population. # Other Qualifications Excellent telephone,
written, presentation, and inter-personal communication skills.
Superior ability to develop rapport and maintain positive,
professional relationships with a variety of patients, staff,
administration, surgeons, and external organizations. Strong
analytical, organizational, and time management skills. Superior
knowledge, empathy and sensitivity skill and abilities in
understanding and working with the morbidly obese population.
Displays a positive attitude and associated behaviors at all times.
Serves as a role model to other staff members. Possesses both an
individual and team-based work style. Ability to educate and train
staff. Must have strong conflict resolution skills. Flexibility,
professionalism, attention to detail, and a focus on quality.
Ability to work with little supervision while handling numerous
tasks. Ability to prioritize and organize workload with
interruptions. Knowledge of medical terminology. An understanding
of Insurance plans and CPT and ICD 10 codes is preferred.
Familiarity with internet and computer skills (Microsoft Office)
