Sonobuoy Systems is seeking an ambitious, self-motivated, career-oriented individual looking for fast-paced challenges and an opportunistic working environment. This position seeks an ambitious individual that is not afraid to be "hands on", with principle focus toward Product support, development, and sustainment responsibilities. This position offers broad involvement with peer engineers, quality, purchasing, accounting, and program teams. Additional responsibilities include failure investigation and analysis, component obsolescence, redesign of circuits, analysis and simulation of circuits, collaboration with Test Engineering for product verification/test through the production environment, and new product qualification. This individual will be expected to work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure compliance to customer requirements, to be involved in design for high volume manufacture of robust products, plus support off-site customer product acceptance testing activities.

Job Description:

Sonobuoy Systems (formerly Ultra Electronics USSI) specializes in design and delivery of acoustic products for the U.S. Navy and commercial markets, for monitoring and generating "sound". Product support and developments offer the opportunity to gain significant experience throughout the range of the electrical engineering discipline responsibilities. The potential range of opportunity includes: sensors/transducers, small signal conditioning and acquisition, power amplification and power supplies, digital signal processing simulation and analysis, embedded microprocessor/microcontroller design, high speed communication through a variety of transmission mediums, custom digital and programmable logic (to include FPGA and CPLD devices), software defined radio architectures and infrastructure, RF circuity and modulation techniques, and a variety of product and design technical documentation.

Required Skills:

  • 4 year professional degree in Electrical Engineering discipline plus 2 years of experience, or 2 year Engineering Technical Degree with 5 years of experience in relevant field.
  • Must be able and willing to travel (10% of the time) to various USSI and government test sites and supplier locations.
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong skills in Electrical Engineering Design Analysis and Design for Manufacturing.
  • Team oriented with successful communication and negotiation skills in order to manage conflicting and/or multiple demands, including ability to present to various levels within an organization.
  • Strong analytical skills especially when driving to root cause, or when determining best approach for circuit design.
  • Experience with schematic capture and circuit board layout practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Programming skills in Matlab (plus digital signal processing modeling), Java, and/or C languages.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS office tools. Microsoft Project experience a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Candidate must be capable of occasional lifting of 40 pounds, waist high, with no assistance.
  • Normal finger dexterity and color vision is required.
