Ultra Maritime, Sonobuoy Systems has an immediate need for someone with demonstrated signal processing experience to design the algorithms that hear the quietest things. On any given day, you might find yourself:

• Designing practically realizable signal processing architectures
• Performing statistical analysis on large sets of acoustic data
• Developing multi-sensor beamforming algorithms
• Reaching below the ambient noise floor
• Translating vague or high-level acoustic processing requirements for implementation
• Analyzing field data in real-time
• Creating or updating digital communications protocols
• Supporting a test (maybe even a sea test)
• Presenting a paper or representing the company at a conference or symposium
• Helping the business development team write a great proposal, or
• Staring at the coffee stain on your desk and wondering how in the world it's 5 o'clock already.

Any given day might also involve picking your kids up from school or running a personal errand, as we offer flexible work hours including an optional 9/80 schedule. The low cost of living and more relaxed, lower-stress environment of northern Indiana are an added bonus.

Our signal processing team is a small and agile group, equally comfortable supporting several smaller programs with paper deliverables or serving a large program requiring the full suite of signal processing practices and methodologies. Signal processing on large programs typically involves architecture definition, digital filter design, statistical data analysis, modeling and simulation, and implementation and testing support. We need someone with enough experience to be fully comfortable with identifying and executing signal processing tasks on all types of programs, and who is fully comfortable in the real and complex, time and frequency, and analog and digital domains.

Required:

• A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent technical field with 7+ years of signal processing (or equivalent) experience; OR an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) with 5+ years of signal processing (or equivalent) experience
• 5+ years of experience in:
• Signal processing architecture definition
• Digital filter design, implementation, and testing
• Statistical data analysis
• Modeling of algorithms in software, preferably MATLAB

• Generation of algorithm description documents to facilitate implementation

• The willingness to travel to customer and internal test sites, including at-sea testing (up to 15% travel)
• Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance (security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens)

Desired:

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred)
• Familiarity with fixed-point signal processing and its implications
• Expert-level MATLAB skills
• Solid foundation and understanding of digital communications
• Background in or understanding of machine learning
• Experience with beamforming and adaptive signal processing
• Exposure to embedded programming, especially in the C programming language
• Experience with acoustic transducer response (magnitude and phase) equalization
• Familiarity with target detection, tracking, and classification
• Familiarity with acoustic propagation modeling tools
