Allen Employee Handbook.Hours 8 am-4:30 pm including some evening
hours; 37.5 hours/week; overtime as requiredUnder the direction of
the Program Manager, the Environmental Services Coordinator is
responsible for working within County government, as well as with
businesses, local governments and other organizations to assist
them in reducing waste, determining how to best dispose of certain
waste items and find outlets for materials that are produced in
their process, other than landfill disposal. This position is
responsible for managing the Community Recycling Drop-off sites,
the Diversion Credit Program, Sustainability Awards and the
updating and production of the Waste Watcher guide. In addition,
this position tracks market data for recycling commodities,
monitors trends in recycling technology and waste reduction and
maintains a database of local businesses offering recycling and
disposal services for all kinds of material, as well as
coordinating a Greening the Government program.ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:Provides advice and education to businesses and other
organizations on waste reduction and sustainability by responding
to requests, conducting visits and maintaining
knowledgebase.Supports the Communications and Outreach Coordinator
by staffing information tables and speaking at events,
participating in seminars, providing input for newsletters,
publications, educational materials and social media posts.Manages
Community Drop-Off Recycling program. Writes contracts, assists
with staffing and training issues by interacting with the recycling
contractor, and promotes the use of the sites by the
public.Maintains a database of local businesses offering recycling
or other diversion services. Contracts and creates biennial "Waste
Watcher" publication for the public and communicates updates
internally to staff throughout the year.Responsible for the
development and coordination of a "Greening the Government" program
to encourage environmentally preferable purchasing and waste
reduction by County government, as well as other government
entities.Performs business audits by going to
companies/organizations and documenting entire waste stream or
desired materials and establishing a baseline for landfill
diversion and making recommendations for improving or establishing
sustainability practices.Responsible for market monitoring by
tracking commodities, comparing to local sales, developing weighted
ton estimates and monitoring the future outlook for feedstock
commodities.Coordinates annual Sustainability Awards, as well as
developing partnerships and seeking out businesses doing waste
reduction to promote and mentor others.Manages the Diversion Credit
Program by receiving data each month from eligible businesses,
calculating payments, verifying sales, inspecting inventories and
auditing material recycling facilities.Assists in the development
and monitoring of the various program budgets for which this
position is responsible.Works with organizations within the
community to address food waste.Provides information to educate the
public and encourage composting.Provides content, assistance and
editing to Communications and Outreach Coordinator, manages social
media and acts as the back-up to the Communications and Outreach
Coordinator in their absence.Acts as liaison with municipalities
within the County to share information about ACDEM programs,
provide support and assistance for local environmental
programsPerforms all other duties as assigned, including overtime
as required.Minimum Requirements and Working
ConditionsREQUIREMENTS:Bachelor s Degree in Business, Ecology,
Education or related fieldAt least three years experience in
sustainability, public speaking, marketing or media relationsStrong
verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking
skillsExperience with commodities market, estimating a weighted ton
and working with spreadsheetsExperience writing proposals and
contractsStrong computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft
Office software, including Work and ExcelStrong organizational
skillsValid Driver s License to operate County vehicleWORKING
CONDITIONS:The Environmental Services Coordinator works in and out
of an office setting with frequent sitting and the ability to move
about freely. Some, bending, pushing/pulling loads, reaching
overhead, monitoring of equipment and kneeling is required.
Frequent typing and attention to detail are to be expected.
