1.0 FTE Trauma PI Coordinator
Department/Division: Trauma Services
Job Summary:
- The Trauma Process Improvement Coordinator works under the
supervision of the Trauma Program Manager.
- In conjunction with the Trauma Program Manager, the Trauma
Performance Improvement RN monitors the clinical processes and
outcomes and systems issues related to the quality of care
provided; develops quality filters, audits and case reviews;
identifies trends, near misses and sentinel events; helps to
outline remedial actions while maintaining confidentiality.
Identifies and trends quality issues to support performance
improvement activities throughout the trauma continuum.
- Reviews and prepares select cases for Performance Improvement
Committee review (PIPS).
- Works independently, demonstrating dedication, high
productivity, and self-management in a fast paced environment while
meeting strict deadlines.
- Requires strong organizational, leadership, group cohesion, and
a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal
and written, necessary to interact effectively with all internal
and external customers as needed. Education:
- Current licensure as an LPN or RN
- Minimum of 3 years in critical care or emergency
department
- TNCC within 6 months of date of hire Job Duties and
Responsibilities:
- The following information is intended to be representative of

- Responsible for maintaining the tracking system for case
reviews and performance improvement reports.
- Evaluates the trauma care process for efficacy, quality, safety
and effectiveness of patient care guidelines through chart
review.
- Assists in establishing indicators for performance improvement
activities/filters.
- Interpret data and prepare reports for performance improvement,
support of related programs, research purposes, and regulatory
visits.
- Participate in local, state, and national meetings and
conferences as required by state and national regulations.
- Identifies trauma patients that meet process improvement
inclusion criteria.
- Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Medical
Director, and other hospital personnel to evaluate and
problem-solve variations in care identified during chart
review.
- Outcome follow-up with referring hospitals and transporting
agencies.
- Participates as an integral member of the Trauma Services team.
Involved in leadership and professional development to assure
skills and knowledge of trauma information.
- Collaborates with Trauma Program Manager and other Trauma staff
to determine data collection and monitor parameters.
- Reviews related materials and attend in-services as directed to
maintain current knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, and
regulations.
- Reviews medical records for accuracy and completeness of
documentation
- Participates as an integral team member in the maintenance of
and preparation for review of the Trauma Center.
- Presents data at Trauma PIPS and TPOPPs meetings as requested
per the TPM.
